Stop Procrastinating And Increase Productivity In 5 Easy Steps

productivityMany of us can find ourselves spending so much time at work that we lack quality time for ourselves. Bringing work home, working late, or overworking ourselves sounds too familiar for many of us. Here are 5 steps to help you manage your time more effectively so that you give yourself more time.

1. Identify your time-thief’s
Time-thief’s are little activities that steal bits of time that you could be using more productively these little buggers add up quickly during a day with you even knowing it. You must identify these little time wasters, take note of the activities you do during a day – it might be surfing the Internet, checking your email or reading newsfeeds, whatever. Spend one or two days and write down the activities you do – identify those that are thief’s and eliminate them!

2. Create very specific time-oriented goals
You need to face reality – no matter what we do, there will always be only so many hours a day – 24 to be exact! So you need to take specific action now, set your goals to start eliminating these time-thief’s. Make sure you have identified specific ways to eliminate them – just identifying them is not enough. Figure out what works for you – maybe a paper organizer or software on your computer, concisely manage your time. Try using software programs to schedule events and tasks, and set alerts so that you are reminded of them in advance and stick to the schedule as close as you can to manage your time .

3. Prioritize, prioritize, prioritize
Did I mention prioritize? It is critical to identify your most important tasks of the day. You should try and keep your most important tasks down to 2-3 and focus on completing them by the end of the day. In doing this, your day will be spent more productively, crossing off those urgent tasks on your list instead of allowing less important tasks to steal your time.

4. Learn to delegate
This is simple – we often get caught up in the thought process of “it will only be done right if I do it myself”. If your thinking that way you need to surround yourself with more competent people. It’s simple – optimizing your productivity means some other people need to carry some of your load.

5. Make new routines and habits
We’re all guilty of that one routine or habit that is so time wasting that we ask ourselves why every time we do it. We are all creates of habit and routine make life sane. The fact is though if your routines and habits don’t support your goals and waste all you time – then they need to be changed! Try to establish new routines and new positive habits with regards to how you manage your time.

Many of these are just simple common sense. Even so we find that reminders of what works is something that everyone can benefit from!
